Mental Health Support
“All praise to the God and Father of our Master, Jesus the Messiah! Father of all Mercy! God of all healing counsel! He comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, he brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (The Message)
The Mental Health Support Group offers emotional and spiritual support, and information to individuals, families and friends who are experiencing life challenges resulting from a mental disorder. Group leaders have personally experienced circumstances similar to group members or have relevant educational training. They are dedicated to helping others successfully meet the impact of mental illness.
The Mental Health Support group is not a therapy group. We do not replace therapy or interfere with medical treatment. We do provide a safe and caring environment in which to share both struggles and victories. We also provide speakers with expertise on topics of interest. Small group discussion and prayer are vital components of this ministry. Our groups meet at New Heights Church Main Campus.
Confidentiality: In order to provide a safe, secure place to support one another, confidentiality is protected. Group coordinators and small group leaders do not give information regarding group members to anyone outside the group, (even the fact that you are a group member), without your written consent. When meeting in small groups, information that is shared is not revealed to a member of another group. It is also emphasized to all group members that “what is shared in group, stays in group.”
The following are exceptions to confidentiality:
(1) If, in the judgment of your group leader and group coordinators, you are in danger of seriously harming yourself or others.
(2) Any communication that reveals the contemplation
or commission of a crime or harmful act.
(3) If there is evidence of domestic abuse.
